The photographs and information below show you some of Year 5's 2025-2026 academic learning journey...
In maths, year 5 created board games where they had to apply multiplication and division skills.
As part of our DT block, year 5 made bread! They shaped and moulded their edible designs, learned all about the history of bread, and of course there was a taste test in the afternoon.
Year 5 have created their own ZONES toolboxes. These help them find methods to regulate tricky emotions.
We loved our trip to The Sea Life Centre where we learnt about living creatures in the sea!
Here's what our year 5s thought about the books we've read so far! Hugo Cabret has been the overall favourite so far.
We have completed our PSHE block on healthy living. Children really enjoyed learning about the effects of smoking and alcohol.
Comic relief turned the year group RED. We even enjoyed a bit of a dance in class.
We have really enjoyed our block on ancient chinese art
Maple have started learning how to play the violin. This will continue till Summer 2 term
Here is the maths blocks for the remainder of Spring and the Summer term. Also, take a look at this visual for division.
World Book day 2026!
Year 5 Zones of Regulation displays.
We enjoyed our music lesson with Miss Day!
We enjoyed exploring our new playground paintings
Year 5 created some fantastic fact files all about Everest to end the English block. Did you know that Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach the summit?
Ash class preformed a fantastic violin concert to the rest of year 5 and their parents. We’ve found some budding musicians over the last few months and hope those who’ve found a passion for music continue to explore and pursue it!
Christmas jumper day at St James was a hit!
We have enjoyed our block on the Industrial Revolution. We have learnt about the Forth Bridge and other feats of engineering during this time.
Children have written a character description of Hugo Cabret.
This included his appearance, personality and back story. Some brilliant language and application of features.
We studied different artists and their 'styles'. We used different media to replicate our own. We enjoyed looking at how the same picture can look so different!
We enjoyed our 'abstract art' unit where we had to use many influences to create our own pieces of abstract art.
We really enjoyed our DT work using cams and gears to create our own working toy prototype!
Maple have been learning French (whilst Ash have been learning Violin). This will swap at Easter.
We love this piece of extra home learning by Tilly. A paper mache model of the Alps mountain range. Well done!
