The photographs and information below show you Year 5's 2024 -2025 academic learning journey...

Year 5 children followed a recipe to make some honey cakes for their 'Cook' DT project. Have a look through some of the photos to see how well they did. They worked well together in small groups and very little adult direction. They very much enjoyed the tasting and evaluating.

07/02/25 Ash Class

Spectacular writing today!! Children wrote a character description of Hugo Cabret, that included his appearance, personality and back story.   I spotted some relative clauses too, which added extra information.

10/01/25 Ash Class

Children enjoyed researching, exploring, designing, making and evaluating their Cams Toys.   We were impressed with the outcome as the rotary movement worked - such excitement around the classroom!!

Impressive writing today!  Children had a go at writing their own version of Chapter 9 titled 'Fire' from The Golden Horseman Story.  I was hooked throughout and couldn't stop until I finished reading their pieces of writing.   These have been emailed over to the author and we are hoping for a response soon.

27/09/24 Y5 Ash Class

We participated in Macmillan Coffee Morning - children loved making and eating those delicious cakes!  Thank you to everyone for your kind donations.   It was lovely to see so many parents/ carers in the classroom after coffee, joining in with our activities.

20/09/24 Y5 Ash Class

We have started reading 'The golden horseman of Baghdad' and children read with lovely expression!  They inferred possible reasons for character behaviours e.g. why did the landlord sneer? Our writing task focused on describing the story setting - oh wow! Impressive use of expanded noun phrases, similes...

04/09/24 Y5 Ash Class

Children amazed me during the first week back when problem solving in maths! Their favourite activity was Tarsia, which required them to create a hexagonal hive by linking the multiplication number sentence to its answer.  Other tasks included +/- 'hit the button' on the computer, playing cards multiplication, rolling dice to form decimal numbers to order on a ladder, rounding money, creating 3d shapes, repeated pattern painting....   It was lovely to hear how much children enjoyed doing this!
